Queer Partying in Vienna: Safe(r) Spaces Around the Song Contest

Since 2019, Villa Vida, located in the heart of the Türkis Rosa Lila Villa, has been a meeting point for Vienna’s queer communities. This café in the 6th district offers not only delicious food and refreshing drinks, but also a safe, relaxed atmosphere for partying, networking and discovering. That makes it the perfect place for anyone looking for queer (party) vibes around the ESC in Vienna.

The villa itself has been a centre of Vienna’s LGBTIQ+ scene for decades. Thanks to barrier-free access, an automatic door and a wheelchair-accessible restroom, everyone can feel welcome and comfortable, while the garden provides a space for those who wish to smoke.

Marea Alta on Gumpendorfer Straße in the 6th district may look small, but it offers a huge amount of fun—especially for Vienna’s queer community. Whether it’s after-work drinks, colourful variety and drag shows, or dancing downstairs in the basement, everything is welcome here. The charming Café Roza on Burggasse in the 7th district stands out with a small but lovely outdoor seating area and a vibrant mix of food and culture. Alongside delicious mezze, filled paninis and a wide selection of drinks—especially their impressive spritzer menu—you’ll find an entire shelf of feminist and queer literature inside. The café sees itself as a feminist cultural café and bar, as well as a safe space for all FLINTA+ and queer people.

The Village Bar near Naschmarkt in the 6th district is a small, stylish gay bar where there’s always something going on. Highlights include a large video wall and an extensive selection of drinks, making it the perfect spot to start your night with a drink before heading out.

Fridays and Saturdays are especially lively: from around 11 pm, the crowd gathers here before moving on to Vienna’s nightlife.

For lesbian visitors, Flinte is a particularly important spot, as its predecessor—the Frauencafé—was already founded by an association in the 1970s. Today, Flinte welcomes FLINTA+ guests every Friday from 6 to 10 pm and operates as a women-only (transgender welcome) café. In short: a truly cool queer-feminist bar in the 8th district.

If you find yourself in Vienna’s city centre around the ESC and are looking for a queer place to party, you can stop by City Bar on Graben on Fridays and Saturdays. This cozy queer bar features a small outdoor seating area for up to 20 people and is also 100% hetero-friendly.

Beyond that, Vienna is home to several queer party series you should definitely keep on your radar if you’re in the mood to celebrate around the ESC:

For example, PiNKED regularly hosts queer parties at Camera Club in the 7th district.

BallCanCan describes itself as a Balkan queer party with XXL Balkan sound and takes place regularly at Ramien in the 6th district.

And at Club U in the 4th district, you’ll often find the Rhinoplasty Club, organised by drag queens—things are guaranteed to get pretty hot here.
