The countdown to the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna on May 16 is on — and we can hardly wait! Luckily, there are plenty of great ways to pass the time until then. One of the best: Vienna’s many beautiful outdoor dining spots, which really come into their own in spring.
We’ve rounded up some insider tips on the nicest places to enjoy beer, spritzers, coffee and more while taking in the great outdoors.
Café Diglas, 1010
- Schottengasse 2, 1010 Wien
- täglich
- www.diglas.at
If you’re exploring the 1st district and looking for a beautiful outdoor dining spot, make sure to stop by Café Diglas im Schottenstift. This cosy garden is somewhat hidden — you’d hardly expect to find such a gem behind the rather unassuming entrance on Schottengasse.
In fact, you’ll discover a very charming courtyard garden, surrounded by trees and shrubs. On the menu, you’ll find classic Viennese cuisine, but we especially recommend the desserts: in particular the chocolate pancakes and the curd cheese strudel.

You’ll also find Erich in the 7th district, located on a small square that almost feels like an Italian piazza. Expect a historic building façade and cobblestone paving, lined with stylish white seating.
On the menu, you’ll find dishes like bowls, grilled cheese sandwiches or juicy tacos. As for drinks, you can treat yourself to homemade chai, an Aperol Spritz or one of several creative gin and tonic variations. It’s also a great spot for a sunny breakfast — making Erich a top tip for Eurovision fans in Vienna.

Looking for a beer garden in Vienna? Then we’d recommend Schutzhaus Zukunft! It’s located a bit outside the centre, right in the heart of a garden allotment area.
In this spacious outdoor setting—perfect for enjoying a cold beer or two, especially in summer—you’ll find classic Viennese cuisine. The venue also regularly hosts cultural events such as cabaret shows or concerts. Ideal for Eurovision Song Contest fans in Vienna who are looking for a traditional Viennese atmosphere!

Glacis Beisl, 1070
- Breite Gasse 4, 1070 Wien

The MuseumsQuartier Wien, with its museums and restaurants, is a particularly great spot for ESC visitors—offering plenty of events and a large, consumption-free area. Tucked away between its high walls, you’ll also find the Glacis Beisl with its beautiful, hidden Viennese garden.
Beneath a cooling canopy of leaves, you can enjoy coffee or a spritzer while ivy and grapevines climb around you, providing shade from the sun. In the evening, the Glacis is lit by lanterns and candles, giving the place a truly magical atmosphere. On the menu, you’ll find classic Viennese dishes — from beef goulash to Wiener Schnitzel — served with a slightly more refined touch rather than overly heavy.

La Mercerie, 1090
- Berggasse 25, 1090 Wien
- täglich
- www.diefruehstueckerinnen.at
You’ll find a touch of French flair in the Servitenviertel in the 9th district. This charming neighbourhood, with its spacious pedestrian zone, is home to several lovely spots and outdoor dining areas—among them La Mercerie, which we consider one of the most charming.
The kitchen serves French delights like baguette, croissants and white bread, all baked in-house in the basement. In the garden, you can enjoy your coffee in the sun — making Mercerie a particularly popular breakfast spot.
For a sweet finishing touch, treat yourself to French delicacies like macarons, éclairs or tartes. All in all, Mercerie — and the Servitenviertel in general — is perfect if you’re looking to enjoy a bit of French lifestyle in Vienna.

Il Sestante, 1080
- Piaristengasse 50, 1080 Wien
- täglich
- www.sestante.at
For anyone looking for a touch of Mediterranean flair in Vienna, we recommend Il Sestante in the 8th district. This Italian restaurant not only serves excellent pizza, antipasti and refreshing Aperol, but also features an idyllic outdoor dining area.
The garden is located in the Josefstadt, Vienna’s smallest district, known for its particularly picturesque character. The seating area sits in front of the historic Piaristenkirche on a small square shaded by trees. With very little traffic around, the atmosphere is especially pleasant and relaxed.
Because this beautiful Viennese garden is quite popular, it’s definitely a good idea to make a reservation in advance!
